House of the Municipality in Bocholt
A synergy project between APK Wegenbouw and APK Groenaanleg
In Bocholt APK Wegenbouw and APK Groenaanleg collaborated on a synergy project around 't Huis van de Gemeente. The entire area around the town hall, including Pastoorsdreef, has been redesigned.
With a view to combating climate warming, which was made evident by the heat and drought in the summer of 2022, the focus of this project was on greening and softening. Bocholt municipality wanted to create more greenery and better water management.
Challenge to 'House of Commons'
This challenging project, which involved maintaining access to the town hall, began on 5 September 2022. The team of Ben Creemers (business unit manager APK Wegenbouw) was responsible for the construction of sewers and paving in the area. New parking spaces were also created with permeable clinkers. In addition, the old structures around the town hall had to be demolished to make way for new stairs and a new disabled access with a special ramp.
Green craftsmanship
For greening the area, the APK Wegenbouw team got help from the APK Groenaanleg team. This team started planting trees and shrubs in December 2022, which was completed in February 2023. In late March, the team of David Diricks (APK Groenaanleg business unit manager) returned to install grass and wildflower mats. Normally, wildflower mats are sown, but here immediate results were expected. This was the first time the APK Groenaanleg team used wildflower mats. After completion, the greenery will be maintained for another two years by our in-house landscape team.
It was a pleasant cooperation for both teams and the final result also shows excellent craftsmanship. The success of the collaboration is also evidenced by the wonderful results and returns achieved.
