Renewed lock platforms for The Flemish Waterway

Stratica leads the way to modernisation

Commissioned by The Flemish Waterway took Stratica assumed responsibility for the renovation of the three lock platforms in Kwaadmechelen. This ambitious project, with a price tag of €1.8m, started in February 2023 and continued until mid-March 2024.

Careful renovation in 3 phases

The renovation of the lock platforms followed a carefully planned course divided into three phases. In each phase, the old concrete was removed and guard tubes installed for cables and pipes. The kesp was completely renewed in concrete. In addition, eurodallen posted on unpaved areas, making the locks accessible with heavy equipment. Pits and gratings have also been modified to allow heavy transport.

Safety as a priority

"Ensuring safety is paramount", says Hans Suffeleers, business unit manager at Stratica. "The work will be carried out while the locks still operational are. The presence of large depths adjacent to the site zone and unexpected discoveries of old structures on the site itself make the project all the more challenging. Both internal and external checks are carried out to ensure that everything is done according to the highest safety standards expires."
