APK Groenaanleg brings the Provence to Wezemaal

Project Max: where residents get maximum enjoyment

Provence in Wezemaal

At the Max Havelaar square in Wezemaal developed YOBO Real Estate 'Project Max', where every resident should be able to enjoy to the maximum. Reading a book under the olive trees in the morning, playing a game of pétanque with the sun on your face in the afternoon and admiring the sunset on the terrace in the evening. For three months APK Groenaanleg to the creation of this outdoor environment, resulting in a piece of Provence in one's own backyard. A project that not only aesthetic is, but also functional and low-maintenance.

Together with the client, we made some sustainable choices:

  • Permeable clinkers for car park construction
  • Fire road with gravel lawn instead of paved roadway for emergency services
  • Semi-paved footpaths

The project started with careful preparation of the subsoil. A solid foundation was provided on vaults filled with coarse crushed stone. This prevents subsidence, especially crucial when soil is added, such as when constructing parking spaces. After this, the team brought in soil and proceeded to build the terraces for which they used concrete tiles.

To construct the path, a twenty-centimetre-high metal demarcation was used to ensure that the different materials remain nicely separated. The semi-paved walkways consisting of dolomite, bonded with a natural product, provide a comfortable and durable surface.

A green and safe passage for emergency services

"Another striking feature of this project is the Construction of a fire road with gravel lawn.", says business unit manager David Diricks. "This green alternative for a traditional roadway not only provides a safe passage for emergency services, but also contributes to the green character of the environment. Made from a mixture of lava, soil, compost and grass seed, this fire road is both functional and ecologically sound."

In order to bring Provence to Wezemaal to the maximum extent, conscious choices were made in terms of plants. The ornamental grasses, lavender, slate and olive trees create a harmonious whole that looks beautiful all year round. The laurel hedge not only serves as a partition for the terraces, but also adds a touch of green to the surroundings.

Finally, some relaxation spots such as a petanque square surrounded by modern concrete blocks were provided. This allows residents to enjoy the surroundings and unwind. In short, the project in Wezemaal is not only aesthetically successful, but is also a fine example of a sustainable and functional environment where safety has been taken into account. After all, something APK Group is involved in every day.
