Armamast provides architectural lighting - Leuven
Armamast provides the architectural lighting from the historic town hall of Leuven
In 2010 had the Business unit Armamast, before being part of APK Group, the appearance of the historic facade of the town hall in Leuven. Through a mini-competition we won at the principal Fluvius, we got the chance to over ten years later the traditional illumination replaced by new, energy-efficient and dynamiche LED lighting.
After four months of preparation, design and construction, during which the various wishes of all stakeholders (Fluvius, city administration, police, light architect and conservation officer) had to be taken into account, the final adjustment was made at dusk to the general satisfaction.
Leuven has one of the most famous Gothic town halls in the world, and the lighting of the windows and towers creates the right atmosphere at night. It is a sober but stylish lighting that enhances the almost 600-year-old building and emphasises its beautiful architecture. An overall exterior lighting of the monument is provided from St Peter's Church and from the current police building.
All the lighting here consists of sustainable LEDs and is part of the city's wider goal of Leuven becoming climate neutral by 2030. The lights on the windows of the town hall are dimmed between 22:00 and 06:00. The lights in the upper part of the towers will remain on in full. These towers are very characteristic of the Leuven skyline and thus remain visible throughout the night. In addition, there is the possibility to remotely control and monitor the lighting and to create dynamic scenes for special occasions.
Following the completion of the architectural lighting of the Alden Biesen castle estate in 2019, this is yet another fine reference in monumental lighting for APK Group, confirming the craftsmanship, experience and know-how of its staff, led by its customer manager Guy Vlaeminck.
