In Geel (Belgium), we were recently present at the laying of a glass fibre cable more than one kilometre long in the Badstraat. The team on site dug 150 metres of trench, laid the cable and took care of the branches to the houses. This distance of 150 metres is no mean feat. After all, the team went from 10 to 150 metres per day in four months' time. "The next target is 300 metres a day." says Kevin Schepers. After the installation, the repaving was done professionally and the street was left clean.
The project in Geel so far involves about 42 000 metres of trench, 3 729 house branches and 13 000 metres of blown fibre.

The installation of the fibre optic cable was accelerated by the invention of the House Intro Box. This House Intro Box is placed when the branch is made to the house. Here the small grey pot in the ground ensures that the number of home visits can be reduced from three to two. Reducing the number of home visits will ensure that the, in addition to efficiency, for less inconvenience for the residents. Moreover, the operation of the HIB is extremely simple. In the HIB the extra length of fibre-optic cable for the house connection is placed after it has been blown. When the house connection actually takes place, the piece of fibre-optic cable is brought from the HIB into the house, after which the HIB is removed.
